Sunday June 14- Team Introduction/Day 1

Good evening Framily, 

   Today we began our day being commissioned alongside the July team.

    We left after the service once the bus was packed up. We rode for an hour and a half-ish before we got to Culvers for lunch. 

    While at Culvers we created an introduction video. We hope that you enjoy.

    We ate many butterburgers and free frozen custards before getting back on the bus to drive the remainder of trip to Abernathy UMC. 

    We had lots of fun in the cars, both parts of the journey there! 

    When we got to the church [around 4pm-ish], we unloaded luggage and set up our beds.

    We went over rules and made our Camp Covenant.

    Following this we went out to the field for some "Fun in the Field". When we were in the field we sang repeat-after-me-songs and played a game.

    Abernathy UMC made us burgers and hot dogs for dinner, they were very kind and we are thankful for them.

        We learned how to operate the tools we will use (our new friend, the saw, named Marc is wonderful). We also learned how to have conversations with our neighbors.

    We then had small group discussions in two different rooms where we had conversations about Psalms 122. Lucy kept hearing weird noises from a random door. The conversations were meaningful and helped us prep for our week.

    After that, we had a worship with songs, scripture and prayer.

    Overall, we had a great day and we are excited to serve our neighbors for the rest of the week!

Sunday the 19th - Travel and Introduction

 Hi everyone! Welcome to the first blog post of our July Mission Journey team.  We started our day off in worship together at FVUMC this morning before heading out to western NC. Our first stop on this journey included food (very important) and today’s blog authors had Moe’s, 10/10 review! A few hours later we arrived at Abernathy UMC with a warm greeting and some enthusiastic team building and camp songs. We learned many things about friends old and new, including what kitchen utensil they would be and their favorite ice cream flavor. Shortly after we gathered for some classic burger and dogs prepared by generous members of the church. We enjoyed free time filled with games and laughter before locking in to be educated on tool safety for our access work where we’ll be helping the community with construction and yard work later this week. Monday June 15- Day 2--Awareness and Ice Cream

  Good evening, Framily,       Today, w e began the day with Morning Watch, which is a time to spend time with God in prayer and through Scripture to center. This will be something we do each morning.       Following this we walked around Haywood Street, in the city of Asheville. Rebekah, our guide, took us around downtown Asheville. She showed us how the less fortunate got their essential needs and how they live each day.       Also, we stopped outside churches to hear about how they helped the community. Some of the churches let people heal physically and mentally while others help provide clothes and they make sure that nobody goes hungry.
