June 17--- Haywood Street Lunch

Editor Notes: Limited photos are in this post and on the FVUMC Youth Ministry Facebook Group due to being intentionally present with community members and to protect their privacy.

Good evening, Framily,

Today, we had a much lighter breakfast, banana bread, strawberries, apple juice, and some other stuff I, Lucy, have forgotten, because we were going to have an earlier lunch at Haywood Street.

During morning watch, I was in the sanctuary where I met a nice lady who was a staff member at Abernathy who was "getting her steps in before starting work".

Today I, Frances, and everybody else went to Haywood Street to visit and eat with our neighbors! There were three things you could do: you could go do crafts in the art room, visit in the sanctuary, or eat outside (In the Garden or the Alley ways).

Lunch was very good! It was a choice of spaghetti or lasagna, with a side of Greek salad and garlic bread. Also, we had tiramisu as a dessert.

After lunch we had some free time to talk and hang out with the community before we went to worship.

At worship, lots of people sang, told stories, and talked to the congregation. Haywood Street does their worship in a way called "Conversational Homily" which means that everyone is welcome to share and contribute to the service.

After worship, we helped clean the sanctuary by sweeping and mopping the floor, then went to the garden for debrief.

I, Layla, and the rest of the group decided to go to "The Freeze" for some ice-cream and took some pictures with the ice-cream-wings!

After ice cream we went back to camp, showered, and had free time. I, A'Leeah, slept and watched some YouTube to relax.

Editor Note: Others played games and napped as well

At the conclusion of free time, we ate chicken tenders, green beans, and Mac-N-Cheese for dinner.

In the CIA's small group tonight, they had LOTS of fun! Lucy and Frances were doing interpretive dance to act out the scripture and Will was playing sound effects on the piano. Obviously, the group was being very silly together and at one-point A'Leeah popped her lips in her water bottle and said," My lipssss are getting bigggg" and everyone enjoyed a good laugh.
It was lots of fun and we DID actually do some of the lesson... some 😜

In the FROG'S small group, we talked A LOT about our experiences with the community in this week. We went over the lesson then talked and talked... like always. We shared about the funny parts and the more questionable parts :( :| :)

The evening closed with worship and reflection about the joys from the week so far.
