June 18--- Deep Time, Finishing up work, Tour, and Softball

Editor Note: Additional pictures and videos will be posted on the FVUMC Youth Ministry Facebook Page

   Good evening, Framily,

Today, we were allowed to sleep in a whole hour. For breakfast we had cinnamon rolls, bacon, fruit, and cereal. Afterwards, we did our daily Morning Watch.

Editor Note: From 1 Kings 19:11-15 and Matthew 17:1-7

Following Morning Watch, we head out to a local coffee shop called "Deep Time." Deep Time is a place that offers a place to work and get better to individuals impacted by incarceration.

They hire people straight from the streets or jail/prison. They aim to help people that have nowhere else to go, and gives them opportunities to get their needs, such as a place to live, a license, a car, housing, rehab, basically whatever they need.

Editor Note: Mercy shared about this and the life of an incarnated person is like

When we went to the coffee making/packing room where we met GA who told us about the process of roasting coffee.

Editor Note: GA is the gentlemen with the white shirt.

There are three phases, the first phase was the process of roasting the beans. (Note: coffee beans aren't actually beans until roasted. Until then they are seeds!)

The second phase is the process of sorting the beans. After the beans are roasted some of them are a little over cooked, those beans are darker. Some of them didn't get enough heat and become a little under cooked, those are lighter. (Note: ever heard your popcorn pop in the microwave? Well... Beans are pretty similar to popcorn. the more you can hear the roasting beans pop, the better the batch is!)

The third phase is packing. Once the beans are DELICATELY sorted, they need to be packed in a bag measuring at 14.60g, every bean counts!

Once packed, you will need to wait about a week to be turned into coffee, and you are done! You now have a delectable cup of coffee! :)

Today I, Zoe, and a few others from both teams (FROG's and CIA) went to Quintana's house after deep time and finished up our fence project.

To express Gods love we gave her a quilt made by the quilting team. In return, she gave us a thank you note about how much she appreciated the work done to the fence and how she can let her dogs out now without worrying about them getting out.

Editor Note: Those that stayed behind watched a documentary on Amazon Prime called "Theirs is the Kingdom" that gave a history of the Fresco at Haywood Street and the stories of some of the people in it.

Editor Note: The photo doesn't do it justice

Editor Note: Also, we went to Hood Huggers to learn about the History of a Western Asheville neighborhood and how their community works together.

Below: Group shot of the Tour. The gentlemen in blue was our guide.

After a long day, we played a friendly game of softball with some of our friends from the community and enjoyed some pizza.

Editor Notes:
The Crows coached by Crow won 5-2... Ca-caw Ca-caw.

Megan, 5th person top row, pitched a complete game

Later that night after everyone got some laughs out, we went to worship and did a called love feast! 😄
