Welcome ... Please Connect with Us on our Mission Journey

The FVUMC Youth Group is sending over 40 team members on 2 teams to Asheville, North Carolina, for a mission journey from June 14-20 and July 19-25. Our team’s work will involve serving alongside our neighbors as they continue to recover from Hurricane Helene while also connecting with the community and each other in ways only a week set apart can facilitate.

We ask that you be in prayer with us, consider supporting us financially through donations, and connect with us in the ways provided below:

Our Theme:

Whisper: Louder Than the Noise” 1 Kings 19:12

Elijah, depressed, fearful, and burnt out, at his end flees the murderous Queen Jezebel to the wilderness and asks to be left to die. God wakes him twice and provides food to eat, caring for his needs. God then requests him to go out on the mountain to receive his word. A strong wind, strong tremor, and raging fire all come but God was not in any of them. Then God speaks through a “still small voice”. God asks, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” God provides hope for his people and a renewed prophetic purpose for Elijah … all through a “still small voice”. We all find ourselves challenged by and influenced by the noisy world around us. We are responding to the “whisper” from God asking, “What are you doing here?” and finding renewed purpose on this journey and in listening for the “still small voices” from God.

Sunday the 19th - Travel and Introduction

Image
Hi everyone! Welcome to the first blog post of our July Mission Journey team.  We started our day off in worship together at FVUMC this morning before heading out to western NC. Our first stop on this journey included food (very important) and today’s blog authors had Moe’s, 10/10 review! A few hours later we arrived at Abernathy UMC with a warm greeting and some enthusiastic team building and camp songs. We learned many things about friends old and new, including what kitchen utensil they would be and their favorite ice cream flavor. Shortly after we gathered for some classic burger and dogs prepared by generous members of the church. We enjoyed free time filled with games and laughter before locking in to be educated on tool safety for our access work where we’ll be helping the community with construction and yard work later this week. Following that we had an impactful conversation on how to have meaningful conversations with our new neighbors, leading into a group discuss...

Good evening, Framily,       Today, w e began the day with Morning Watch, which is a time to spend time with God in prayer and through Scripture to center. This will be something we do each morning.       Following this we walked around Haywood Street, in the city of Asheville. Rebekah, our guide, took us around downtown Asheville. She showed us how the less fortunate got their essential needs and how they live each day.       Also, we stopped outside churches to hear about how they helped the community. Some of the churches let people heal physically and mentally while others help provide clothes and they make sure that nobody goes hungry. Below: "FROG's" Group walking in front of one of many murals.       As we explored, we noticed how "targeted" some rules were. In the library and Pack's Park, they have rules about having to have good hygiene to be able to use the spaces. Also, in several other pla...
